Our Story

We had a humble start back in 1982. We set up shop in a shed in the Santa Fe, N.M. rail yards, and took phone orders for hand-packed pouches of roll-your-own tobacco. Today, we’ve grown – we still have our headquarters in Santa Fe, in addition to manufacturing and distribution facilities in Oxford, N.C., as well as our western distribution center in Reno, Nevada.
 

What is the difference between Natural American Spirit and other tobacco products?
Natural American Spirit cigarettes are made using only the finest, whole leaf premium tobaccos specially selected for us by our own leaf experts. No tobacco additives. No reconstituted sheet tobacco. No processed stems. In fact, only a small percentage of every annual tobacco crop meets our high standards and rigorous quality requirements needed to provide our smokers with the highest quality authentic tobacco taste in its purest form. We also provide full tobacco ingredient disclosure. The only tobacco ingredient is the leaf itself. We simply keep things natural.
 

What is the difference between American Spirit  regular tobacco and your organic tobacco?
All of our tobacco products are made using only premium quality, whole leaf, natural tobacco with absolutely no tobacco additives.

Our organic tobacco is grown according to strict organic standards established by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Organic Program (NOP). The tobacco, as well as every manufacturing process and facility involved in its production, is inspected and certified as meeting organic standards by Quality Certification Services, Inc., a USDA-accredited certifying agent.

What this means is that we contract with organic farmers to utilize cultural, biological and mechanical practices that foster cycling of resources, promoting ecological balance and conserving biodiversity
